eventholder

I know that “eventholder” isn’t actually a word.  But I’m trying to exert a little pressure here on the English language on behalf of Eventbrite users everywhere.  I think that what you guys do is important enough to merit its own verb.  Thus, “eventhold” becomes the thing that you do.  And I’d like to call it that and to call you guys the doers of that thing from now on, if that’s alright.  Also, and for as long as necessary, I will link to this page from all the places on Eventbrite.com where I happen to write eventholder, so folks will know it’s not a … Continue Reading

filmbooth

By Western standards, India is a collectivist culture.  American film buffs admire the output volume of Bollywood, yet dismiss its idiosyncratic visual language as thematic homogeneity and creative narrowness.  It may surprise some to discover there’s a bigger creative picture there, especially if they judge this book by just its big-screen cover.  All over the world, the advent of Youtube has had a liberating effect on the expression of culture through video.  In India, the short film genre has inspired millions of independent film producers, who may have Bollywood-scale aspirations, but lack the resources or connections necessary to pull-off a film in Mumbai.  The result is a thriving community of filmmakers and … Continue Reading

united way and price waterhouse coopers holiday
Some people have been harder hit by the economic downturn than others.  While some families measure the losses to their portfolios, other families are teetering on the edge of oblivion because the main breadwinner in the house lost his or her job in the last few months.  Helping families who are “trapped between layoffs, foreclosures and skyrocketing costs for basic needs” is precisely the mission of the United Way of the Bay Area’s Road to Recovery program.  In an effort to bring visibility and financial support to this cause, Price Waterhouse Coopers has “donated it’s holiday office party” in the form of a Gala … Continue Reading

bizspark

Microsoft recently announced the launch of a new program called BizSpark to encourage startups to build on their stack. You get everything you need to build a web service free for three years.  Not surprisingly, many of the tools and software you get compete with open source alternatives, such as MySQL.  The program, run by VP of Strategic and Emerging Business Development Dan’l Lewin, is global and offers access to full-featured development tools and production licenses of server products with no upfront costs. BizSpark also provides the necessary hand holding with free technical support.

Interested in pitching?  You’ll get your chance.  In what looks to be … Continue Reading
